Phoenix, AZ gets its own Star Gate (sort of)

Phoenix is putting in a new light rail transportation system. Officials decided artwork would be appropriate to help beatify the area along the light rail route. A friend of mine sent me a link to a story about one of the art works along the route. At Central and Camelback Roads, one of the artists created what looks like a star gate to me. See for yourself here... http://www.thetearsofthings.net/archives/000817.html

Joined just so I could post this. I just watched the DVD movie released last week. Ties up loose ends from the final season. Not a theater quality film, but a few good special effects and the chance to see SG-1 in action one more time.

The Wraith and albinism

Hi all.

A friend and I were debating something the other day while watching Atlantis, so I thought I'd present both sides and see what others here think.

My friend is an albino, and he remarked that the Wraith looked like albinos and expressed some dismay at that. He remarked that very rarely--not never, but not often--is there an albino character in a movie who is not portrayed as "the bad guy" or at least vaguely sinister, and he seemed to think the same thing was happening with Stargate Atlantis.

My response was that, while I do think he has a point in general, I doubt that the writers of Stargate Atlantis specifically meant the Wraith to represent human albinos. I have never heard any comment made by the characters about "evil *albino* Wraith." I don't think I've ever even heard any discussion of their appearance on the show. There's plenty of discussion of their feeding methods and tactics, but that's it. In fact, Tayla is a hybrid Wraith/human, and I've never seen her feed on anyone.

To be fair, I do think my friend has a valid point about movies in general, so I can't entirely reject what he said. I can also see that if I'd grown up with the stigma he has, I might have the same bias. However, I've also said to him "Dude, most villains are also male, so why isn't that an issue too? Any group at all can find some reflection of themselves in any character if they look hard enough."

So anyway, I'm just curious about what others think.

Peace,
--Andy

Midway between Pegasus and the Milky Way?

That midway stargate station looks to be only a few hundred thousand light-years from the Milky Way galaxy, yet it supposedly is midway between Pegasus and the Milky Way. With the distance between the two galaxies in question being more than 300 million light-years, should the midway point be somewhere around 150 million light-years from Earth?

SG1 has been around for a while, and I have been watching as catch can. Then lately I have been net-flixing the show.
I am up to season 10 and just finished ep 3 The Pegasus Project and oh man!!!

That has to be one of the best Science Fiction episodes of a show I have ever seen. And while it needs the rest of it to build up to it I must say it is a great piece master craft work.

So much so that I needed to jump on to tribe, find this group so I can share this great appreciation with a sympathetic crowd.

In addition I like that SG1/SGA do a good job of taking in other SF actors, (ST:V, Farscape, Firefly...)

Firefly and Stargate crossing paths.

Firefly actors Morena Baccarin (Inara) and Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb) have both been in episodes of Stargate SG-1. Adam Baldwin in 2004 for the episodes Heros pt 1 & 2. Morena Baccarin was also in 5 episodes of the final season of Stargate SG-1 as Adria, the high priestess of the Ori. She will continue that role in the upcoming Stargate SG-1 movie, "Stargate: The Ark of Truth." And fellow Firefly alumni Jewel Staite (Kaylee) will be fetured regularly on the forth season of Stargate Atlantis. Apparently the Stargate franchise recognizes talent when they see it.

Simpsons Tribute...

Okay, so Don Castalnetta (voice of Homer) was on Stargate, but how about an SG-1 Tribute on the Simpsons?

Try to imagine this: in the sequence when the whole Simpsons family runs to the sofa, the sofa suddenly morphs into a Stargate, and the whole Simpsons family running toward it are dressed in camouflage gear. Bart is the last one in, and he's standing at the 'gate, firing wildly at Mr. Burns, who's dressed up like Ra. Then a hand reaches out of the gate and yanks Bart through. Mr. Burns grins, and his eyes flash yellow. Smithers is seen at the extreme right, holding a staff weapon!

Opinions?

How should the series end?

Season Ten is the last. So, how should the series end, if you were given the choice?

For myself, it ends like this: the last great enemy is beaten, and the Stargate Program is revealed. The show peels off, showing each person's final fate:

Daniel finally gets his just reward as his theories are proven right. His summaries and papers and reports which he's filed with Stargate Command are made into a book which outsells all of Budge's books on Ancient Egypt.

As to the others, I don't know. What can i say? Daniel was my favorite character, while the show was still good, anyway.

Since RDA is not a series regular anymore, is Stargate moving toward a relationship with Danial and Vala? Are we going to be talking about our favorite Danial and Vala moments? They have had a few so far, and I think they will more.
And, in TV time at least, is it not about time that they found a new love intrest for Danial?

Or is it all in my head?

On last weeks episode of My Name is Earl, Earl came over to his parents' house and asked his mother, "Where's Dad?" The first thing that came to mind for me was, "He's at Stargate Command." In other words, Bo Bridges also plays Earl's father. Kind of reminds me of that episode of Boston Legal where Armin " Quark" Shimmerman and Rene "Odo" Auberjonois had their first scene together.

Direct link: http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/10/istargate_sg-1i_movies_coming_to.shtml

Wednesday - October 11, 2006 | by Darren Sumner

What's the future of Stargate SG-1? Fans have been wondering and rumors have been flying for weeks since the long-running SCI FI Channel series was cancelled in August (story). Now, at least the first part of that answer is here.

MGM has given a green light for the show's creators to produce two direct-to-DVD movies based on SG-1. Executive producer Brad Wright let TV Guide in on the news this week.

"It's the climax of the Ori story line," Wright said of the first film. The movie will tie up the loose ends from the show's tenth season, which is expected to conclude its U.S. television run in June. The film will be written and directed by current SG-1 executive producer and show-runner Robert C. Cooper.

The SG-1 cast is not signed for the movies yet, but are said to be "very eager" to continue.

Wright will pen the second film, which will involve time travel.

The producers have previously expressed a desire to set up a third Stargate television series with a film -- but it isn't confirmed yet whether or not this second movie will do just that.

The studio is targetting a fall 2007 release for both projects -- just a few months after Stargate SG-1 ends its historic, 10-year run on cable television.

It's entirely possible that the movies will also be aired on television -- something SCI FI commonly does with direct-to-DVD movies.

"They're not big-budget [films] by any definition, but for us it's pretty good," Wright told TV Guide. "As we've proven over the years, just give us little more money and we can make pretty good television, or DVDs."

"There's a sense of an era for us ending," he said, "but at the same time, we're all positive because of the prospect of continuing forward with movies and the introduction next year of Stargate Worlds, a massive multiplayer online game."

Season Ten of Stargate SG-1 resumes will all-new episodes in March on SCI FI Channel.

(Thanks to RJ, Mike from Virginia, elyse, David Molinarolo, Morjana, Stuart "TheCap" Davies, Chris, Denise, Michael Sacal, Dan S., Becca, Ian Mullen, and R Stumpf for the tip)

Hello Lovely Tribesters,

Brian Birbiglia here with The Venice Vibe Tribe comin’ at ya’ with a whole lot of appreciation, adoration and gratitude.

I wanted to send out a personal thank you to all those that supported last weekends extravaganza, LA Decompression. One hundred thousand thank you’s could never express the way that I feel and the wonderful success that was achieved by all those that participated.

The Venice Vibe Tribe and I would like to give credit where credit is due and I am sure that other members of my tribe may be sending something out to express themselves and how they feel. This is from me!

First and Foremost, a great deal of admiration and accommodation goes out to The Fire Poise Dancers, Performers and the DJ’s. Magnificent and thrilling performances, and it was all of you that gave us the motivation behind our setup.

Secondly, my appreciation and high regards to the providers of the astonishingly extravagant art. Without it, we would have only had a blank canvas. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thirdly, to all those that volunteered their time, effort and gave so much of themselves not only to benefit our effort, but to enlighten the experience of all of the internally beautiful people in attendance! Much gratitude and appreciation are bestowed on you from me and all of us.

Finally, thank you BRC committee and rangers for their efforts in organizing and putting this thing all together. We love you and we when we think about you, we’re already half way home!

Am I forgetting anyone? If so, please bring it to my attention and I will be glad to give you proper praise…. because everyone truly deserves it!

One Final note before I wrap this up.

I wanted to thank Bobby I and The Venice Vibe Tribe Team that participated in setting up this event. Thank you Bobby I for taking on such wonderful projects, giving so much of yourself (and your cash), working with us every step of the way and for being our fearless leader. When I see you happy it makes everything all worth wild!

To my Fellow Venice Vibe Tribe Members: Working, living, socializing and just simply being with you makes life so much better. You are my family and my friends. You are the best, most wonderful people I have met since I started riding this rock around the sun over 34 years ago. All of my hopes and dreams stem from ideas that are inspired by each and every one of you. I am forever your friend, your Marine and your motivation! I love you and look forward to our next venture!

Fair winds and following seas to everyone, and we will see you sooner then you know at The Cre8tivitY Warehouse in Venice!

Peace & Gods Blessings to you all!

When Daniel figured out that Adria's Ori powers were nullified in that chamber where they found the Sangraal, I believe he was thinking about tossing her down that bottomless pit. I suspect that such a thought then meant that he was no longer pure of heart. Does that make sense to anybody?

just watched the season finale of Atlantis, and i have one thing to say...........
STUPIDEST
EPISODE
EVER!!!!
i mean, it probably doesnt help that i missed the episode with the pegasis replicators or whatever, but still. they tried to introduce WAY too many new developments WAY too fast, just to get the team to a positiong where they can play a defy orders to save the day, and i think the way the had the ancienct act was WAY out of character for them. and of course u know that they ARE gonna save the day, but unfortunatle, the ancients will all be killed in the process........*sigh* the only way for this episode (and the continuation) to possibly redeem itself is to turn out to be just another dream.........

If I remember correctly, Langaria is Jonas's planet and Hebridan is the "Space Race" planet. And now they've been conquered by the Ori. If notable planets like those have been conquered, then think of all the other worlds that have and will be conquered.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think would happen if both the wraith and the ori were in our galaxy? Would the Ori try pointlessly to convert the wraith or would the wraith just eat every living soul in site and get blasted by random priors?

Infor on SG1 11th season... perhaps..

Direct link: http://savestargatesg1.com/digital.php

Other SG info: http://www.gateworld.net/

Take our 'digital future' demographic survey

Options for an 11th season of Stargate SG-1 are closing off to us. Based on all the insider information and evidence gathered by the campaign steerers, we believe the only way to ensure an 11th season for Stargate SG-1 is for first-run episodes to debut exclusively on the Internet from download services like Amazon Unbox and Apple iTunes.

To watch the episodes on your computer, you'll need to have DSL/broadband Internet plus Apple's iTunes/Quicktime or Windows Media Player, which are both free applications. You don't need an iPod. Reports are that quality is as good as a television picture.

For some US fans, those without DSL/broadband Internet connections, this will mean waiting a year after Internet release to view episodes on syndicated TV. But not all fans in the US receive the SCI FI Channel and are unable to watch first-run episodes now. Many watch Stargate SG-1 through syndicated televised episodes only so nothing will change for those US viewers.

Most likely, international fans, those outside the US, will not be able to access the Season 11 downloads, but will get their televised seasons as normal. These fans have always had to wait until the US finished its first-run season episodes, so there is virtually no change.

The question for US fans is this: is it better for some to have to wait a year to see a Season 11 in syndication, or to have no Season 11 at all?

The question for international fans, those with the necessary DSL/broadband Internet connection, is this: you may not be able to get access to Season 10 episodes now through download, but do you want to be able to get Season 11 first-run episodes in the future?

The question for US and international fans, those with the necessary DSL/broadband Internet connection, is this: would having access to first-run episodes on the Internet deter you from watching episodes on TV or buying the DVDs?

To help us answer these key questions affecting the future of our show - if there is to be a future for our show - take our new 'digital future' survey below. All questions are required and we ask you to participate responsibly and constructively, answering as accurately as you can. Only take the survey once. We will be sending this data to senior executives at MGM and we hope it will have a direct bearing on Stargate SG-1 continuing, rather than bowing out after a TV movie.

We're doing our utmost to make a business case for the continuation of Stargate SG-1, drawing on our power as consumers rather than our views as fans. That said, you can still opt out of answering the income and Stargate SG-1 expenditure questions if you prefer: that choice is provided in the list for each.

There will always be an option for you to say 'I'll wait until the episodes air on TV' rather than downloading. Please note - that's not necessarily a negative judgement! You may want to download, you may think its a great idea, but you can't because you don't have the necessary broadband connection or a recent enough computer, or it may be too expensive. There's a tie-in question at the end of the survey that will let you tell us why you'll be waiting to watch on TV.

In terms of personal information, only a valid email address will be requested: this is used by our survey co-ordinator solely to verify we don't have duplicate entries to the survey, then it's deleted before any other data is even looked at. You have our guarantee your privacy will be respected and your individual survey entry will remain strictly confidential: the survey data is accessible only to the survey co-ordinator.

Snap Ending

The Ori storyline is so dull it needs a snap ending; get it over with fast and move on.

So, here's my solution: take the booby-trapped ZPM (the one that Camulus made) and strap it to the chest of Beau Bridges and have him prostrate himself to the Ori as a willing convert. They take him to the Ori headquarters to turn him into a door-to-door proselytizer. When the Ori are gathered to witness his conversion, he flips the deadman switch.

The Ori are destroyed, and so is the boring imitation O'Neill.

Carter is promoted to Brigadier General, and she takes over the Stargate Program.

Advanced races and problem solving

I was thinking about the various advanced races in the Stargate universe and how they go about problem solving. They really don't seem to be all that good at it or go about it very intelligently. Other than the Nox, who I don't remember ever needing to deal with a serious problem, they don't have much mental flexibility.

When the advanced race or cultures like the Asgard, Tollan or Ancients have a problem, they throw tehnology at it. Their advanced technology seems to be their one and only approach. If it doesn't work, they just try more and more technology. If that doesn't work, they are out of luck. If their techonolgy can't solve the problem at hand, they don't or can't think to try anything else. They are stuck.

Thier solving problems seem to really be quite poor even when they are presumably very intelligent or even super intelligent. They have one-track minds and little ability to adapt if their usual solution doesn't work or is actively counter-productive as with the Asgard and their battle with the Replicators.

I wish I knew why SG1 is about to leave us. If it’s because some dump-ass studio ex thinks the it doesn’t have a big enough fan base, hell yea lets fight. But if it’s because the actors and writers don’t think they can keep the quality up after 10 years, then yes let it die a dignified death. Bring it back in a few years with a new fresh grew. It just I don’t know which is happening

I was watching stargate the other day and an interesting thought accrued to me. They kept throwing hints about Sam and Jack finally getting together (like Sam breaking yup with Pete, Jack breaking up with that girl, the fact that Jacks ex even said "Is the military the only thing keeping you two apart). Then, all the sudden, for no reason, Jack is just gone. He retired. It seemed unexpected at first. Does anyone else think Jack and Sam are finally together?

So, I think I've told you I'm going through and watching these on DVD now (yay netflix). Anyway, I just watched Space Race tonight and though I've seen it before, I'd forgotten how much I liked it. I immediately started it over again to rewatch. It's not the regulars that make it fun, though they help, it's the Hebrideans. I would a series based out of Hebrides and those characters were fun. Eamon, Worrick, and Jarhead (or whatever his name is) were fun. I love it when they have fun.

Just sayin.

I've been slowling going through and netflixing favorite series like StarGate so I can rewatch favorites and see the ones I missed. Just finished watching the two episodes where Daniel comes back and Jonas leaves.

I just want to say, I loved Jonas. He was great. Date him in a heartbeat. And the scenes between he and Daniel were spot on. It was sad to see him go, but I'm glad they didn't kill him off, at least.

Also, it was fun to see the Star Wars homages in that one as well as the Princess Bride homage. I love it when shows do that. I was kind of hoping O'Neill would joke about using the Force to bomb the ship. heehee!

SG-1 Ends Run; Atlantis Back

Referrence link: http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=2&id=37607

SCI FI Channel confirmed that it will not renew its record-breaking original series Stargate SG-1 for another season, but will pick up its spinoff series Stargate Atlantis for a fourth year. SG-1 aired its 200th episode on Aug. 18, and the SF series is the longest-running SF show on American television.

SCI FI issued the following statement on Aug. 21: "SCI FI Channel is proud to be the network that brought Stargate SG-1 to its record-breaking 10th season. Ten seasons and 215 episodes is an astounding, Guinness World Record-setting accomplishment. Stargate is a worldwide phenomenon. Having achieved so much over the course of the past 10 years, SCI FI believes that the time is right to make this season their last on the channel. SCI FI is honored to have been part of the Stargate legacy for five years, and we look forward to continuing to explore the Stargate universe with our partners at MGM through a new season of Stargate Atlantis."

Stargate SG-1, developed for television by executive producers Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, is based on the 1994 feature film Stargate. SG-1, which originally starred Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge, began on Showtime, then moved to SCI FI after five seasons. The current cast includes Tapping, Shanks and Judge and newcomers Ben Browder, Claudia Black and Beau Bridges. It airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

--------------

I'm saddened by this :(

I'm sure there are those who loved last night's Atlantis episode. I, however, hate it now and I'll hate it later! Not only did it feature one of the biggest cliches in SF (They had a virtually identical episode on Buffy for example.), but they also RECYCLED an earlier episode ("Home"). Come on! I'm among those who gets bored VERY EASILY. And when TV shows refuse to be original, I can't take it. Is this (horrendous) episode a sign that the Sci Fi Channel is going downhill?!

I figured from the start that the Ba'al clones were going to fool Stargate Command into helping them do their evil deed. Why? Because the same sort of thing has happened before. Remember the Carter Replicator duplicate and how she tricked the SGC into helping her? With that being the case, shouldn't the SGC have figured out by now that any and all help that is offered from the enemy is very likely going to backfire?

there are a wide variety of storylines in the series which have never been resolved. Here's one that occurred to me:

1. What ever happened to the Tollan? Anubis and Tanith conquered them, and we heard one desperate radio call, then nothing. Is Carter's extraterrestrial heart-throb still alive? Now that Anubis is dead, are there still troops occupying Tollana?

Ultimate Crossover!!!

Whoa. What an awesome episode. (10-3)
Talk about an ultimate crossover.
They did Morgan Le Fay justice. And they paid homage to Star Trek IV,
(and Star Wars de facto by it being episode 3!)

Two Birds with One Stone!!!
that was a killer episode.
Do you think they might actually keep this series going?
Star Trek: The Next Gen bowed out gracefully, and X-Files, whose 10-season record SG-1 will break with episode 10-6, milked it 'till the very end.
Who can say?

They are definitely respecting the cadre of Neo-Pagans that make up a core segment of their viewership. They're also directly addressing issues of religious fundamentalism in an indirect yet potent way. Even though they may be preaching to the choir, I think its still in the right direction.

Yay to SG-1 for portraying Morgan in a Positive Light.
Let's hope she resurfaces later in the season.

So the last episode of Stargate SG-1 really pushed my limits of believability. I mean simply from the perspective of the doctor and assistant (in star trek terms crewman x) dying BEFORE Carter or any of the others of SG-1. You have to figure that they were exposed to the parasite shortly after arriving and the doctor succumbed because he was sleep deprived but the next doctor and assistant came after that and if the parasite is eating the melatonin I'm sorry but one of the SG-1 team should have died first. I know. I know. They have long term contracts and they are the stars but really this just insults me. Pretty close to jumping the shark.

If the Stargate program were real and Ken Ley knew about it and wanted to reveal its existence to the world, I suspect they might fake his death and send him to the Alpha Site just like they did to that Colson guy in the episode "Covenant." It would explain things, you know.

Mega Culture (or why they want to kill stargate)

This is my theory on the Mega-Shontur.

Yes I know I misspelled Shontur or Shondur or whatever it is. I tried, but I could even get close enough for my Franklin to tell what I was spelling at. You know Science Fiction shontur, Fantasy shontur, est. Some kind good speller please help.

Warring this is a conspiracy theory

What ever happen to Science Fiction Shontur? Excepted for Star Track/wars books on the bottom shelve at the bookstore it’s all but gone. TV, movies and best seller will tell you it just doesn’t sell anymore. But why’s that? Most of the same people are still a life that were 10 years ago. Convention and chat groups are still going strong. So what happen?
What happen was the block-buster. Publishers don’t want a paperback, movie or TV show that sells well, they want a block-buster. They thought they’d found the answer with the Mega-shontur. Why not make a SF/Fantasy/thriller/horror/techno thriller? Put all of these shonturs together in one movie/book and you’ve got a block-buster every time.
None so are this is not really a bad thing in and of itself. True it take most of the money and puts into one kind of movie, paperback,tv show, still there should be some left over. There are some of us in each shontur that like what we like, not a diluted high-bread. But wait. If we are going to a real Science Fiction, or for that matter a real horror movie, then we might not go to there comic book, horror, tec-thriller, Science Fiction movie. So by up the Star Track moving and make a really bad movie, see it doesn’t sell have to stop making them, but will keep the contract so on one else can make a good one. Put out firefly, but don’t advertise it, see it doesn’t sell, but out of the goodness of our hart will buy off the author with a 10 year contract and put that on the back shelve.
Results, well we all have to go to the same Horror/Science Fiction/Comic book/Fantasy/Spy/Love Story/est. movie/paper back/TV show.
I guess I’ll see you all there.

Didn't we go there to explore and look for all sorts of alien technology? And to explore the culture of the people who built the stargates? (did the ancients live there for 9 million years?)

They're in a city the size and density of Manhattan, so why haven't they found restaurants, theaters, residences, parks, etc? They found one or two laboratories.

Yes, the wraith are distracting, but isn't it about time we saw something of this city we're spending so much effort defending?

How about Stargate catchphrases? You know, like Star Trek has "Beam me up, Scotty."; "He's dead, Jim." or "Make it so." Space: 1999 has "Attention, all sections Alpha."; "Eagle One to base" or "Main motors." As for Stargate, the only catchphrases I can think of are: "You have a go."; "Off-world activiation." and "Jaffa! Kree!" What other Stargate catchphrases are there?

The first wave of Stargate SG-1 action figures will arrive on store shelves this summer, starting with Daniel Jackson, Colonel Jack O'Neill, General Jack O'Neill, and a Serpent Guard. The 7-inch figures will be available at comic book and specialty stores for about $15 each.

An announcement regarding Wave 2 will be made soon.

Reader questions appear below in bold. Our thanks to Diamond Select's Michael Leavey for answering our questions!

How many variants can we expect from each figure? And will the Serpent Guard have different face sculpts as "variants," or no differences at all?

Main characters, like Jack and Daniel will usually have one or two variants, depending on the retail partners that we have lined up and future line plans. Right now there are no plans to have a variant on the Serpent Guard, but we never say never.

I'm really excited about getting a closer look at these figures! Have you considered setting up displays at the Stargate Conventions this year? Maybe giving us a preview?

DST will be at the Grand Slam Sci-Fi show in Pasadena in March, as well as a future Stargate show or two in 2006. We will keep you all posted as to which show we decide on. We do attend all Wizard World Conventions and San Diego Comic-Con as well.

When can we see Carter, Frasier, Hammond, and Teal'c? I'm hesitant to buy the first wave if all main characters are not going to be released.

With Toy Fair around the corner, I guarantee that we will be announcing the next series VERY shortly.

Black Ops Jack O'Neill
When you go further into the roster -- which you will because there will be lots of demand for them -- will the super soldiers be released, and when will they?

We only like to announce one wave of figures at a time, but anything is possible as far as characters. It depends on the success of the overall line.

Will it be possible to buy the figures online, in case some countries don't have a supplier?

The figures will be available at several online retailers, including the Diamond Select Toys' site (although we do not ship internationally). International partners have been set-up in most countries including the U.K, Europe, and Australia.

Will there be a way for people to mail-order the figures if they do not have a store that stocks them nearby?

The DST Web site -- diamondselecttoys.com -- will offer all of the figures for retail.

Specific Figures

Having looked at the recently released photo of the Jackson figure, it's obvious you are using the Season 5-8 Jackson with short hair and no glasses. While the clothing looks dead-on, the neck also looks over proportioned. Is this a byproduct of the sculpting or maybe articulation?

Everything that has been seen thus far has been from the first round of prototypes. There will be some change depending on where the points of articulation are and this is always a challenge -- to add articulation without taking away from the original sculpt!

What is the difference between the Colonel O'Neill and General O'Neill figures?

The General O'Neill figure is wearing his base uniform and is more representative of how the character looked in the most recent years on the show.

I would like to ask about the articulation on the Serpent Guard. From the photo in Spectrum it looks as if his arm is one piece with a ball joint at the top, and then a turn at the wrist? How about the legs? When can we expect a picture sans the Serpent Helmet?

The photos we have shown to day are resin casting of the sculpt, so none of the articulation is cut into it.

I like the Daniel prototype that we've seen pictures of. But the uniform is incorrect. The offworld uniform has no name patch on it. Is someone carefully checking props and costumes from the set for accuracy? Fans are picky!

MGM checks the sculpts and Mr. Anderson checks all his sculpts personally. Fans for every property are very picky -- DST works on Star Trek and Buffy, and both have very picky fans. And we're not done making small changes like this.

Looking at the two released photos (Daniel and Serpent Guard), where are the elbow and knee bends? Are they really well hidden or are we looking at prototypes?

Again, the photos you're seeing are prototypes. None of the articulation is cut in yet.

Serpent Guard
Can you give us any clue who the alien for the second wave might be? Is he a bad alien, a good alien, or a bad alien turned good ... or is he a "he" at all?

Not only do I have a clue but I've seen the sculpt ... and we plan to show it off at Toy Fair next month.

I like the faces in the pictures of the prototypes of Jack and Daniel so far, but I was wondering why both of them have uniforms different from those worn on the show? (I mentioned Daniel's nametag above, and Jack is wearing some kind of BDUs under his medic vest instead of the offworld uniforms.) Are these mistakes? Or is there a licensing or copyright issue that prevents the figures from wearing the same costumes as those seen on the show?

All the outfits are from the costume department reference so they are accurate in one way or another. We have full access to everything on both shows. Some of the photos may not have the exact correct matching of tops with accessories, etc., and that might be what you're referring to.

In recent pictures of the SG-1 figures the O'Neills look different from each other. The General O'Neill has the green offworld jacket, which I thought it was going to be a BDU. And both Colonel O'Neills have the BDUs instead of the jacket. Is it because they are prototypes? Also, is there going to be another General O'Neill with the blue BDU shirt, like the green one?

We are making several version of each character in different uniforms and different uniform colors -- and YES, you are not looking at anything close to final product. The final versions will have the shirts switched.

The Stargate

How big is the Stargate?

Over 16 inches tall when assembled.

The gate looks good, though it looks as if you used the movie version of the ramp. Is there any reason for this?

We did not use the movie version of the ramp -- we do not have rights to the movie.

What can you tell us about the Stargate? What is the size, and does it light up, spin, or take batteries?

The Stargate does not light up or spin.

What will the scale of the gate be in relation to the 7-inch figures? Is it large enough for the figures to walk through?

It is not scale-accurate to the show, but yes, it is plenty big enough for them to walk through.

Accessories & Additions

Black Ops Jack O'Neill
What can be expected in terms of accessories, and in terms of the number of accessories with each figure?

The gate is the main accesory but each figure will have a couple of additional accessories. They will be on display at Toy Fair.

Will accessories be standardized, or will each figure have unique accessories?

A mix of both.

Are you going to give Daniel Jackson glasses? Molded on, or as an accessory?

We are undecided if they will be an accesory or added on to the head sculpt.

Will any of Daniel's accessories include a journal and his field archaeology kit? Remember, Daniel is an archaeologist and a linguist, not a soldier.

We'll be unveiling the accessories at Toy Fair -- but yes, we know! (Although he certainly has great aim with a P-90 for a scientist ...)

Will the Colonel O'Neill be packaged with the older seasons' HK MP-5 or the new seasons' P-90?

Toy Fair will reveal all.

Are there aspirations to add playsets to the line if sales warrant further figures, like in the Star Trek: Enterprise line where several key figures also came in set components -- like having SG-1 come with parts for, say, the S.G.C. gate room?

The gate will take two full series to complete. We're not sure yet what we will do for series 3 and beyond. A full control room, though, would not be practical.

What about figure bases? Will they be free-standing or will they include bases for the figures to stand on, adding to their stability (maybe molded in factions, i.e. O'Neill on an S.G.C. base, the Guard on one molded in Apophis's symbol)?

Free-standing.

Since episode-oriented accessories will be included, will such devices as the personality switcher that Ma'chello used or a naquadah generator be in the first wave? (Or in the future?)

Certain accessories that may have only appeared once or twice certainly come to mind, but we'll show these at Toy Fair.

Colonel Jack O'Neill
How about a death glider and/or F-302 to scale with the figures?

Not likely.

Will there maybe be an "Ancient life signs detector" or a working "zat'ni'katel?"

Not likely.

Will there be a Puddle Jumper for the Atlantis figures?

Not likely.

Will you eventually release Replicator figures, maybe a pack of them or a few with certain characters?

The Replicators are a big part of the show, so of course some are being considered.

Does DST have role-play and ship/vehicle models included in the license?

Nope.

After the gate has been completed will you continue with the build your own (fill in the blank)? My idea was a ring platform. Each character will come with a ring. The ring can somehow snap to another ring with a clear plastic piece, giving the illusion of them floating above each other. Maybe one or two figures can come with the floor ring pieces. Then you can put your team inside the rings making it look like they are ringing to somewhere.

Other people had the idea of build a M.A.L.P. (could be separated into four parts), or build your own dial-home device. Is that something DST would consider?

To be honest, we haven't even started officially planning the details for SG-1 series 3 or Atlantis series 1. We have some ideas brewing, but there is no set formula for future releases.

You've still got questions nagging at you, don't you? Now it's your turn!

Just post your question in the "Ask Diamond Select Toys" thread at GateWorld Forum, and we'll forward them on to get the official scoop. Stay tuned for more Q&A installments -- and the very first look at the figures! -- as we get closer to their release.

Wouldn't you say that the mission that lead to the destruction of the Prometheus was the biggest military blunder in the history of Stargate Command? I mean, it was a titantic contraction of Carter's genius for her to conclude that the Caledonian space weapon had no defenses -- especially since she only saw incomplete blueprints of the weapon.

Don't get me wrong. I *loved* the episode! David Hewlett did a fantastic job. But my brain kept thinking of Steve Martin & Lily Tomlin...and the tune "All of Me" kept running through my mind! :P (All of Me: http://imdb.com/title/tt0086873/ ... Duet: http://www.scifi.com/atlantis/episodes/season2/episode204/ )

Was I the only one?

Maybe the writers are fans of the movie?

This marks the second week in a row that I've avoided watching Stargate. More Ori B.S.

I've watched the series from the beginning, but this last year it's gotten predictable, and boring.

Does anybody besides me think the writing is going downhill?

I just can't get into the Ori as being worse than the Go'A'Uld. Their POV just strikes me as very pretentious.

I'm also getting a bit tired of the whole "Stargate is secret" attitude. Things might be a bit more lively if the secret was out.

Were the ancients ALWAYS humans?

I'm lazy and won't go back to the beginning to find out, but typing is cheap, so I'll ask here. I *thought* originally the ancients created the gates *millions* of years ago. Now it's something like 50,000 years ago, by the first evolution of humans, or something...?

And there were 4 races. Remember the episode where Katherine's fiance got lost in the gate in the 1940's, to be rescued by SG1 50 years later? There were 4 races represented. I *think* one was the Asgaard.

Can someone set me straight on what the story is?

Shanks in 16 of 20 episodes next season

Shanks in 16 of 20 episodes next season

THURSDAY - FEBRUARY 2, 2006

Michael Shanks

Stargate SG-1 co-star Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson") will appear in 16 of Season Ten's 20 episodes, he told Michael Shanks Online.

The actor will take off a couple of weeks in late March when his third child is born -- a joyous event that will also no doubt take wife Lexa Doig ("Carolyn Lam") away from Stargate for a time. Shanks will also take off a couple of weeks in the summer to spend time with his family.

"I'm contracted for 16 episodes this season," Shanks said. "I'll probably be out of the fourth and fifth episodes and two others later on."

The episodes could play in to what executive producer Joseph Mallozzi called "a potentially very controversial Daniel arc" that the writing staff was kicking around. It has also been confirmed that Daniel will finally make his long-desired trip to the lost city of Atlantis, though it is not yet confirmed whether this will occur in an SG-1 episode or an Atlantis episode.

Read the full interview at Michael Shanks Online. The actor also talks about his family, his religious views, and the changes that Stargate SG-1 has seen over the years.

She turned down alphaghettis!"

It's a slow day in the Shanks' household and little Mia Tabitha Shanks is quietly enjoying her lunch as only a 16-month-old can. "It was quite traumatic for me," laughs her dad. "I had made this big deal about alphaghettis and she just went - blech. I was like," his voice slows and lowers, "are you sure you're my kid?"

Dad is actor Michael Shanks, Dr. Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1. (Mom is Mrs. Shanks, actor Lexa Doig, who played the AI Andromeda on the show of the same name, and is currently appearing on Stargate SG-1 as Dr. Carolyn Lam). Michael Shanks Online took advantage of the quiet time for a chat with 35-year-old Michael Garrett Shanks, actor, husband, and father.

Shanks is also daddy to 7-year-old Tatiana Shanks. Her mother is Vaitiare Bandera, who played Daniel Jackson's wife Sha're in the early seasons of Stargate. Dad likes to joke that Tatiana made her screen debut in the 1998 episode "Secrets", playing an embryo.

Michael Shanks on Urban RushMore recently, Tatiana appeared in the episode "Collateral Damage"; in the final scene she's the little girl playing with the frisbee behind Colonel Mitchell (actor Ben Browder) and Mitchell's father. Last summer, while appearing at a convention in Boston, Shanks talked about his daughter's acting experience. "At first she was excited, but after sitting through the 'hurry up and wait' experience that is filming, she was a bit disillusioned." Her comment when it was over: "Is that it?"

According to her father, Tatiana's reaction to TV interviews was very similar. Last summer Shanks and fellow actor Christopher Judge (Teal'c) were interviewed by a local Vancouver TV show, Urban Rush. Both men brought along their daughters, Shanks with Tatiana and Judge with then four-month-old Chloe. Afterwards, Tatiana watched the show with her father. Her opinion?

"'Daddy, it's boring.' I didn't say anything. She was shy for a bit and then she got bored," her father offers. He was talking, Chris Judge was talking, the show's hosts were talking; "'It's boring, Daddy,'" laughs Shanks. "When she comes to the set to visit she expects to see all the cool, neat effects, but then she gets bored pretty quickly."

- Thought you guys may be interested in knowing this information :)

Stargate Action Figure Q&A (Part 3)
WEDNESDAY - FEBRUARY 1, 2006

* Part 1 here -> http://www.gateworld.net/news/2005/11/stargateactionfigureqa.shtml

* Part 2 here -> http://www.gateworld.net/news/2005/12/stargateactionfigureqa.shtml

General Jack O'Neill

GateWorld continues its Q&A with Stargate action figure creator Diamond Select Toys, with questions submitted by readers at GateWorld Forum! We're now taking questions for the next round, so hop on over to the forum if you have a question you don't see answered here -- or in Part 1 and Part 2 of our on-going Q&A.

We've also received five brand new photos of the figure prototypes for Colonel Jack O'Neill, General Jack O'Neill, Black Ops Jack O'Neill, and the Serpent Guard. Just click any photo in this story to see the full-size image!

Not
